Nokia introduces N81 8GB combine music and gaming

InfoSync: "With dedicated music and gaming keys, 3.5 mm headphone connector and 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity, the Nokia N81 multimedia phone is the closest we get to innovation in Nokia's new multimedia phone lineup. With a sleek surface and keys that light up when you activate them, we wonder if the exterior is also truly optimized for gaming, which it will have to be to succeed as a gaming phone. We'll definitely need to perform a few serious gaming sessions on the N81 before judging its capabilities as a gaming phone. Anyway, the N81 also offers a fancy menu with 3D icons, as well as music and game downloads from Nokia's Music Store and N-Gage games service. The Nokia N81 will retail for approximately $450 and should hit shelves late this year. "

Nokia introduces N95 with 8GB built-in memory, 2.8" display

InfoSync: "As a multimedia smartphone, the Nokia N95 is no longer the star when it comes to the multimedia aspect. What keeps it on the top is its great calling and messaging performance. Nokia tries to do something about that by introducing an upgraded version, offering 8GB of built-in memory and a 2.8" QVGA display. In our opinion, these minor upgrades aren't enough to keep players such as HTC and Apple on a distance moving forward. For those looking to buy the upgraded N95, it'll retail for approximately $550 in the fourth quarter of 2007."

Microsoft announces Surface computer interface

Download Squad: "Microsoft is taking the wraps off its new 'Surface' platform, which should be commercially available later this year. Essentially, Surface lets you interact with a computer via a tabletop interface, no keyboard or separate display needed. Touch the screen to make selections and move images around.

Use two hands to make pictures larger or smaller. Or place certain items on the tabletop to interact with the computer.

The first Surface computers could cost up to $10,000 so don't expect to pick one up for your living room just yet (unless you're a super early adopter with too much disposable income). Rather, they'll show up at hotels, retail stores, restaurants and casinos first.

Harrah's in Las Vegas will have a 'virtual concierge' service letting guests reserve tickets, peruse menus, or make purchases. It's just a matter of time until someone builds a realistic virtual poker application.

T-Mobile has signed on to take advantage of Surface's object recognition capabilities, by allowing customers in selected stores to pick up a cellphone, place it on the table and get information about prices and phone plans."

Wubi makes Ubuntu a snap for Windows users

Download Squad: "I'd wager that there are a huge number of Windows users who would probably be quite happy with Ubuntu Linux as their day-in day-out OS of choice. If only there were an easy way to try Ubuntu out on your windows machine without breaking anything, repartitioning or dealing with the diminished performance of a Live CD.

You're in luck. Wubi takes the hassle out of installing Ubuntu on a loopback file system located on your Windows partition, while making it bootable just like a real-deal Ubuntu install. In fact, it is a real-deal Ubuntu install, albeit in a slightly unconventional manner. If you go glassy eyed at the word 'loopback', don't worry.. it's just a fancy way of saying that your whole Ubuntu install is self-contained and stored in a single large file on your Windows drive. "

FF: "Ubuntu is FREE and Smart... its worth a try <Download>"

YouTube tests in-line advertising

Download Squad: "Google is placing advertisements in the body of a limited number of YouTube videos. The interface is rather interesting, with a small text ad showing up on the bottom of the screen partway through the video.

If you click on the text of the ad, you're taken to the advertiser's site. If you click the play button on the ad, a video commercial pops up inside the same window as the video you're watching. When the commercial ends, your video resumes.

The ads only play when you're watching the video via YouTube. We tried embedding this My Chemical Romance video in a blog post, and the ad didn't show up, which is nice. When you embed clips from other video sites, such as The Onion News Network, you may have to deal with pre-roll ads, which you can't get rid of, and which you don't make any revenue from."

FF: "Money Money Money... which is good... we love videos"

Nokia's 1100 handset: over 200 million served

Engadget: "Sales records typically don't stand for too long without being overtaken by the next best thing, but somehow, Nokia's el cheapo 1100 handset has reportedly racked up "over 200 million sales" since it launched in 2003. You heard right, this low-end candybar has put the 100 million iPods, 50 million RAZRs, 10 million Chocolates, and 115 million PlayStation 2 consoles to shame in terms of sheer units moved. Interestingly enough, the design team that conjured up this cash cow originally dubbed it "Penny," and the stripped down, dust-proof mobile purportedly entered the market at precisely the right time to catch the booming overseas growth as folks worldwide began snapping up their own cellphone. Of course, such a basic, uninspiring phone isn't for everyone, but considering the 200 million strong that owned one sometime during their life, we'd say Nokia found a winner."

FF: "I agree, this is a great phone, it's similar to 8210"

Louis Vuitton Tribute Patchwork Bag

The Bag Snob: "LOL LOL LOL I am laughing so hard I can not type. What am I looking at? This must be a joke! It's a collage of every gross bag Louis Vuitton has ever produced. Looks like an angry salesperson decided to cut up all the ugly bags on the shelves of an LV boutique and to salvage them, the designers made the pieces into one single bag and called it the 'Tribute Patchwork' bag (Tribute to what? Marc's insanity?). You need to make sure your boss is not around before you read the next sentence, as you will either laugh your ass off outloud or scream with disgust. Ready? Coast clear? The price tag is a hefty HK$354,915. Go ahead. You can now laugh or scream. "

Doggy treadmill gets your pup in shape

Doggy treadmill gets your pup in shape - Engadget: "For those of you out there whipping your offspring into shape by utilizing the Step2Play middleman, and burning your own fair share of calories on the GameRunner, it's about time Rover joined the fray, eh? The Dog Walker treadmill helps prevent doggy obesity and apparently relieves the dog's stress, all while helping it to exert all that pent-up energy from being cramped up in the house all day. Aside from sporting a smaller, dog-friendly design, casters to enable easy transport, and two side shields to prevent minor tumbling disasters, the machine also sports a safety leash which prevents the pup from sliding off the rear (or giving up on the goal) and a devilish remote control to vary the speed from 0 to 5-kilometers per hour (3.1 mph). So if you're tired of Fido's stomach dragging the ground while crawling around in misery, you can pick up its very own treadmill (to go along with that recently-purchased pedometer) for ¥15,800 ($131)."

Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Limited Numbered Signature Edition

Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Limited Numbered Signature Edition (seriously) - Engadget: "You have to be seriously freaking into Vista if you're even thinking about the Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Limited Numbered Signature Edition (seriously, we didn't even think Microsoft was capable of a title like that), but at least the price is on target ($259) and they claim it's signed by the man himself, Billy G. Something tells us it's just an embossed signature print or something along those lines, but either way it's down to you and 19,999 others prepared to get their fanboy on with the latest, greatest version of Windows."

Quake hits Asia with huge internet blackouts

Engadget: "If you've been wondering what's up with your MSN's friends in Hong Kong, here's what: a nasty earthquake near Taiwan disrupted all six major undersea fiber optic cables on Wednesday, and knocked out internet for nearly all of Asia, with victims including China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong and even Australia. Luckily, most services were restored quickly to backup systems, but exclusive business lines are still out, and could be hurting for weeks. According to Chunghwa Telecom of Taiwan, Taiwan's internet capacity is at "about 40 percent now," and the resultant loss of bandwidth is creating traffic jams aplenty in that series of tubes we know as the internet. Phone service, especially to the US, has also been disrupted, but luckily stock trading volumes were low over the holidays, so the financial impact of the outage shouldn't be too terrible. The damage to last night's 40-player raid, however, could prove irreparable."

FF: "They should include Satellite or Wireless to transmit data~"

A380 superjumbo lands in Hong Kong

A380 superjumbo lands in HK: "The Airbus A380, the world's largest passenger aircraft, has touched down for the first time in Hong Kong. The superjumbo landed at 12.25pm today on a technical route-proving flight from Toulouse, France.

Airport Authority Chief Executive Officer David Pang said the airport is among 10 key global airports to partake in this phase of the A380's type certification.

To ensure the airport meets the Civil Aviation Department's licensing requirements for the A380 and other Code-F aircraft, the authority has invested $100 million into facility enhancement. The improvements, completed earlier this year, included widening taxiways and upgrading parking stands. The changes enabled the airport to obtain an aerodrome license for A380 operation in July.

At the airport, the superjumbo will go through a series of facility trials, including parking at airbridges, connecting to fixed ground power and receiving pre-conditioned air. Ramp services like catering, line maintenance and aircraft refueling will also be tested during the plane's overnight stay."

FF: " "its huge~"
