Yahoo’s first cellphone coming to Cingular >

Engadget - www.engadget.com: "A big day for partnership announcements from Yahoo: They’re not going all the way and launching their own MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) service or anything like that, but Yahoo announced earlier today that they’re going to be busting out their first cellphone, a Yahoo-branded Nokia with a 1.3 megapixel digital camera, a memory card slot, and built-in MP3 playback (they didn’t reveal a specific model). The phone will be sold in partnership with SBC Communications, the parent company of Cingular (which means it’ll only work on Cingular’s network), and will offer tight integration with a subscriber’s existing Yahoo account (which would be the only point of buying a phone like this). Can a Googlephone be far behind?"

Macally mTUNE-N with iPod nano dock >

Engadget - www.engadget.com: "In a worrisome trend, manufactures have turned to offering 70’s inspired head mounted iPod accessories no doubt in response to the sorry state of stereo Bluetooth headset offerings. Macally hopes their $49 mTune-N “cordless” (er, yeah, the nano is in your ear!) headset will single-handedly resurrect that old-school cans-looks so popular along St. Mark’s or Golden-gai today. These foldable, battery free headphones are said to be “lightweight” and include a standard 3.5-mm jack for non-nano connectivity or full (blind) access to the inserted nano’s controls via integrated click wheel. Oh please let other-side be equipped to dispense our favorite cheap beer flavored soda."

New Intel-based PowerBooks and iBooks by April or May of next year? >

Engadget - www.engadget.com: "Is Apple going to bust out new Intel-based PowerBooks and iBooks even sooner than expected? Jobs confirmed a couple of months ago that they’d have the first Intel Macs out by June of 2006, but now AppleInsider is reporting that we could see ‘em in stores a few months earlier than expected. They’re careful not to get too specific, but they say that several reliable sources have told them that Apple is working on a new 15-inch PowerBook that would be about 20- to 25-percent thinner thans the current model and will sport a built-in iSight video camera (the 17-inch model will have the camera, too). They’re also reporting that Apple will finally roll out that new widescreen iBook we’ve been hearing about for months now, and that it’ll be a completely new model with a 13-inch widescreen LCD."

iRiver to hold Bae Yong Joon U10 training classes >

Engadget - www.engadget.com: "iRiver to hold Bae Yong Joon U10 training classes >

It looks like iRiver Japan realized the problem they faced with the Bae Yong Joon edition iRiver U10: its target audience, lonely Japanese women over 40, aren’t exactly renowned for their technical expertise. iRiver to the rescue, as the company has announced plans for special training classes to be held free of charge at the “iRiver Plaza Shibuya” in Tokyo on November 15th, 22nd, and December 1st. Over a grueling two hours, the training class will cover how to access the preloaded Bae Yong Joon voice samples, how to run a slideshow, set the device’s alarm clock, rip a CD to it, and so on. Although only five students will be allowed per class, each will receive a complimentary (and empty) gift bag for their attendance. Thanks, iRiver!"

New Nokia N-Series Phones

Introducing Nokia’s sweet new N-Series media convergence phones, we have, from the left, the N71, N80, and the N92. And Nokia isn’t kidding around with these 3G Series 60 phones, no sir, they’re busting out the WiFi for the N80 and N92, a 3 megapixel camera in the N80, decent music support in the N71, DVB-H for the N92, and QVGA or greater resolution displays in all three phones. Both the N71 and N80 should be available Q1 2006, with the N92 following in the middle of the year. They’re priced at 400, 500, and 600 Euro (US$490, $610, and $730) respectively, and we’ve got all the juicy specs, along with more pictures, after the jump.

Big Nokia N71
Starting with the music centric N71, we’re looking at a clamshell with a 2 megapixel camera, along with a second cam for video calls. As far as music playback goes, the phone has a 5-band equalizer, an FM tuner, and support for MP3, AAC, eAAC+, and WMA formats. Sadly there is an unimpressive 10MB of included memory, but it is expandable via miniSD. They also include "

Just announced yesterday, and already we have some shots of Nokia’s new N92 DVB-H cellphone in the wild courtesy of Cellularmania. Not bad considering the WiFi and 3G enabled N92 won’t be released for another 6 months or so in DVB-H hungry Europe. Nothing new to report, just enjoy the pr0n and threat promise of mobile TV on a 2.8-inch QVGA screen."

ASMA-Design 2007 S-Class

Remember the ASMA-Design CLS Shark? The German tuner is at it again with a new design for the 2007 S-Class. The company sent a teaser pic to eMercedesBenz, even though the car isn’t scheduled to debut until the Essen Motor Show on Nov. 25th. The ASMA-Design S-Class obviously gets new front (and rear) aprons, side skirts and chrome dubs (translate: 20” rims). Also included is a sport exhaust system and a ride height 25mm closer to terra firma than the stock model."

airpouf

A lot of people nailed us on the fact that the radio toaster we brought you a few weeks back does in fact possess more functionality than we gave it credit for. Well we’re here once again trying to win back your respect with the Airpouf, a goofy convergence item that pairs a soft round chair with an internal vacuum cleaner. When used in its seating capacity, this vacuumlounger covers its intakes and exhausts with small plush balls that make the exterior resemble a mangled smiley face. Surely neither as effective as a Dyson nor as comfortable as, say, the Personal Rockin’ Computer, the Airpouf proves once again that cramming two products into one package doesn’t necessarily make for a better widget."

Creative CEO Sim Wong Hoo

Oh, Sim Wong Hoo, you kill us! In November of last year you told us that your company, Creative, had declared war on Apple. Eleven months later your marketshare has actually fallen, not risen, and you’ve just reported that profits for this past quarter are down 86% in the face of “fierce price competition.” It’s a tough game — even Apple has started to price its players more aggressively — so what’s Sim Wong Hoo’s game plan? Well, it’s definitely not to try and compete on price since he’s made it clear that they’re not going to be offering anyone any more discounts. He actually told the BBC News that from now on Creative is going to be “focusing on profitability” and that they’re not going to “go aggressively on market share — we need to hold back our appetite and sell at a higher price.” Sure, there are some perfectly sound business reasons for this kind of strategy — marketshare is irrelevant if you’re not actually making any money — but of last year Creative clearly wanted to be the"
